It was undoubtedly a bittersweet day when a 33-year-old man was sentenced for hitting a pedestrian with his car and fleeing the accident scene. But while the driver was held accountable for his reckless and deplorable actions on the day of the accident, there is no punishment or court decision that can bring back the man who was killed after getting hit by the driver.
When we read about pedestrian accidents in the news, the stories often involve a distracted or reckless driver who simply neglects to keep an eye out for pedestrians. Often, these accidents occur at busy intersections in areas where visibility might be poor. Many people who are using the sidewalks or crossing the street on foot try to stay alert and safe to avoid getting hit, but some drivers do not take these same precautions.
