Hit-and-run driver runs but cannot hide after Los Angeles crash

As any Los Angeles resident probably knows, there are many drivers in this area who make dangerous, reckless or simply bad decisions behind the wheel. They get distracted, frustrated or overly aggressive while driving and put other people in serious danger of getting hurt in an accident.

Drivers still on phones after fatal pedestrian accident

Drivers in California are likely aware that it is unlawful to be texting or talking on a handheld phone. We have seen marketing efforts, educational campaigns and new technology aimed at keeping our hands, eyes and focus away from our phones. Unfortunately, not every driver takes the message that distracted driving is dangerous very seriously.

Pedestrian accidents in California decline

People all across Redondo Beach like to take advantage of the nice weather and sunshine whenever they can. This means that people are outside exercising, walking to work, bicycling or just going from point A to point B without being confined to an automobile. But with the popularity of these activities can come a threat to people's safety. California is one of the top three states where pedestrians are at risk of being killed in an accident with a motor vehicle.

Could pedestrian accident have been prevented by crossing guard?

Pedestrians all across Los Angeles know that there is some level of risk associated with sharing the road with motor vehicles. That is why many pedestrians exercise caution at intersections and stay on sidewalks. However, not all motorists take these same precautions. There are many accidents involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian that happened because of a negligent motorist. Unfortunately, it is generally the pedestrians who suffer the most serious injuries.

Daylight saving life-saving tip: Watch out for pedestrians

Last weekend, Californians set our clocks back an hour and readjusted our lives to align with the end of daylight saving time. With summer behind us now, we are falling back into winter routines, which can include new work schedules, school classes and holiday weekends. With all this going on, it can be easy to forget that it's getting darker earlier in the evenings and the sun is coming up later in the mornings.

LAPD increases enforcement efforts at dangerous intersections

Pedestrians in Los Angeles are probably aware that there are some areas of the city that are more dangerous than others. Areas with high levels of traffic congestion and intersections where drivers routinely fail to look out for people walking and crossing the street can be among the most dangerous spots for a pedestrian. And the victims of auto-pedestrian accidents are not the only ones who are taking note of these hazardous areas.

Speeding driver flees scene of fatal pedestrian crash

It is bad enough that there are many drivers on the road who would rather take chances and drive recklessly than to be safe. The people who speed or drive while they are drunk or distracted put the lives of the innocent people around them in danger. But to make matters even worse, many of these same negligent drivers try to escape taking any sort of responsibility for their actions.

California pedestrian injured by alleged drunk bicyclist

People all across California should be used to the fact that there are many people out on the roads at any given time. Pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists should know that we are all expected to share the roads with each other and behave responsibly so that we do not get into an accident. However, too many people fail to take this responsibility seriously and they end up hurting other motorists or, in some of the most tragic cases, vulnerable pedestrians.

Police say street racing caused fatal car-pedestrian crash
