It’s predicted that 4.5 million Southern Californians will be traveling this Fourth of July. Whenever there is an uptick in traffic on the road, there is an increase in the number of collisions that occur.
But that’s not the only danger facing Fourth of July travelers. The number of people who decide to drink and then drive also ups the ante for more auto accidents. Those accidents are also completely preventable. With the proliferation of rideshare apps and public transit, there just is no reason to drive after consuming alcohol.
Stay safer this holiday weekend
There is nothing wrong with celebrating our nation’s 249th birthday with family and friends. It’s the actions you take after celebrating that wreak so much havoc in the community. Below are some tips for having fun and staying safe this Fourth of July:
- Leave early. Traffic is only going to get worse throughout the day, so make sure you get off to an early start!
- Check your tires, oil and water before leaving. You could wind up stuck in traffic. You don’t want to add an overheated radiator or a flat tire to further delay you.
- Wear your seat belt. Make sure you and all passengers are belted in before turning the key.
- Don’t drink and drive or ride with those who do. Make sure that you have a safe and sober ride home before you ever leave your house. Remember that alcohol usage clouds people’s judgment.
While these tips might keep you safer, the fact is that anyone can get into a serious car wreck caused by others. If you get injured in a holiday car accident, you may need to pursue a claim for damages to be made whole again.
