It was undoubtedly a bittersweet day when a 33-year-old man was sentenced for hitting a pedestrian with his car and fleeing the accident scene. But while the driver was held accountable for his reckless and deplorable actions on the day of the accident, there is no punishment or court decision that can bring back the man who was killed after getting hit by the driver.
Getting into a motor vehicle accident can be a terrifying, painful experience. And it is one that can happen to anyone, whether it is the elderly driver heading out to the grocery store, the young mother dropping her child off at day care or the young teen who just got his driver's license. These crashes can happen for a number of reasons and result in a variety of injuries.
There are some car accidents that are just that: accidents. But far too often, these crashes are caused by a driver who is being reckless or negligent and is choosing to put themselves and others in danger. And it may take a catastrophic accident before these drivers learn their lesson. Unfortunately, this lesson often comes at the expense of innocent people's lives.
